About mad cow disease

Did you heard about mad cow disease? It's really scary.

Mad cow disease is an illness affects a cow's nervous system, causing a cow to act strangely and lose control of its ability to do normal things.

And what are dangers? Let me tell you, recently 2 people die because of the mad cow disease.

Which means the cows that are infected are sold for meat.

The disease kills the nerve system and make human brain like a sponge. The diseases have a long period until it appears, so there is a long time between point of infection and contracting the actual disease.

And there is no cure for it. You have to avoid eating parts of the cow that are likely to carry the infection like brain or ground products. But eating steaks, roasts, or burgers known to have been made from uninfected herds is perfectly safe. However, it may be harder to know the origins of the meat in processed meat products.

It's your choice whether to eat beef or not.

How does Saipan's economical change affects our life

When I just arrived on Saipan, the gas price was only $2.03. But now the gas price is $4.44.

This tells me that the economic has been change since 4years. How about the money we're paying to CUC? The payment just doubled. We are paying second most expensive payment for power. The economy of Saipan is really falling apart.

How does it affects our life? As soon as the CUC payment doubled, the only movie theater in Saipan closed, because they could not afford the payment. And because of the increase of gas price, all stuff coming from outside island became more expensive. For example the price of rice went up to 26 dollars and it will keep go up.

There are two main industry in Saipan. Tourism and Garment Factory are the two.

Garment factories came to Saipan because they don't have to pay the tariff. But now there is no tariff even in China or Taiwan, and the lowest income is getting higher which makes the garment factories to close down. And even the airplane ticket price went up. That makes tourists harder to come and spend their money here. A lot of money is going out of island but very little come in.

Tips for the freshmen for SSHS

I know that excitement of expectation for the high school.
And Saipan Southern High School is known for the best high school in Saipan.
But before you enjoy, you have to know about SSHS.

The mission statement of SSHS is "academically fit, ethically guided, culturally astute, socially responsible, individually articulate, and technologically skilled."

Manta! Manta!Manta! Ray! Ray! Ray!

When I first came to SSHS, I was mostly surprise at the class time.
A hour and twenty minutes of the classes are harder than I thought.
Some of the freshmen would be tired of class. But they will be use to it after a month.
The school's regular schedules are following:
first period-8:00~9:20, second period-9:30~10:50, break time-11:00~11:15, third period-11:20~12:40, lunch-12:40~1:30, fourth period-1:40~3:00.

To know what is going on in class, you must pay attention from the first day when teachers explain about their classes. If you are the student who doesn't care about school, you'll flunk.
But if you are the student that care and want to get good grades, you have to be close to teachers. Teachers are there for you. They want to educate you to certain level and prepare you for the real worlds.

Selecting of classes is very important. English and math are subjects that you don't have a choice. But others you can chose as following: Natural Science, Biology, P.E. , and NMI history.
For the elective: Arts, Computer, Ceramics, and the Band.
The Band is most encouraged elective. By the time you become a sophomore, you would go to Guam to compete against other schools and perform many shows in Saipan.

Other important thing is making new friends. There would be friends whom you knew middle school or elementary school. But there are many students you do not know. Most students are too shy to talk to people whom they don't know. That is the problem. You need to be bold and daring type. Make people have interest in you.

For the last, the school's rules are most important thing.
You have to be in the class before 8:00. If you have excuse sheet from your parent or guardian it's okay. But if you don't have excuse sheet, you are in trouble. First unexcused tardy would be punished 3 days of detention. Sencond or more unexcused tardy would be punished with minium of 2days. The rules in here are pretty strink. But that strick rules make our school the best high school in Saipan.

About the world's population and food&water

The U.S. population grew by more than 205 million people during the century, more than tripling from 76 million in 1900 to 281 million in 2000. That is a lot of change. In China now there are about 1,298,847,624 people and in India about 1,065,070,607 , United States about 293,027,571 , Indonesia 238,452,952 , Brazil 184,101,109.
If the population is growing and the food supply keeps the same, then the food supply will decrease drastically. And I don't know , maybe in 20 years there might be fight over food.

And how about water? Only 1% of the whole water is drinkable. Some people say that the water price would be more problem than the oil & gas price.
We people should be ready for something like this.

About the interest of the current project in English class

We had project about all kind of stuff.
Two week was given to the students.
We formed three people in one group and divides 50 question.
While I was researching, I was very surprise at the facts that over 55million people died during WWII. And the Russia lost most of the people, close to half of the 55 million.
It was same as when Napoleon try to invade Russia.
The time was winter and soldiers are not ready for the cold winter but Russian army was.
So Napoleon had to give up. As Napoleon didn't thought of the whether, Hitler did not care about the whether and lost hundreds of the soldiers and retreat.
Many died on the land of the Russians.
